Simple Travel-Inspired Decorating Tips!

Can you easily recall and daydream about the most inspiring vacation you’ve ever taken? Do you often reminisce about how wonderful your trip was and wish you could bring some of those wonderful elements of that trip into your own home to create a travel inspired home? Well you can and its simple to do!

I recently embarked on my first, long overdue trip to the land of amore – Italy! There were so many rich experiences on my trip from the amazing food to the breathtaking scenery that I don’t ever wish to forget. I plan to incorporate some of the vibrant colors, memories and elements of that trip into my own home, so I can continue to celebrate that adventure while incorporating a more international flare into my own decorating style while also creating a sense of place with a well-traveled history.

Here are some simple, affordable ways to make any room in your home feel like your favorite dream locale so you can return to it time and time again for much less money!

Color! Color! Color! – Take some time to go through some of your favorite photos from your trip and take note of the local color schemes that pop up. Are they filled with all things watery blue, green and tropical? Or are they earthy, warm and sun-baked? Pull 2-3 colors from these photos to use in your overall color scheme and consider pulling these favorite colors into curtains, bedding, pillows, rugs, candles, textiles, artwork other fabrics and of course paint.

Authentic Accessories – Are there any great souvenirs from your travels that would also work nicely as decorative accessories in your global inspired room? Often times, we purchase items on trips because they resonate with us and make us smile. Why not pull those statues, vases, original artwork and any other great pieces out, dust them off and find a meaningful place for them to bring your room to life. If your concerned wit clutter, group these items on a shelf, mantle or bookcase to create a focal point.

The Little Things – Don’t forget the little things about your dream vacation that made it so special: the way a locale made you feel so relaxed or inspired, the food, music and surroundings. Consider placing a wine fridge in your master suite to celebrate your trip to Tuscany for example.

No matter what design direction your travels take you, keep it simple and remember to combine your own authentic pieces and furnishings to create a space that is uniquely yours and will inspire you to embark on even more grand adventures and celebrate those past in the meantime!
